GENERAL INFORMATION
DESWS Project has a target impact (Goal) of “Improved access to and quality of sustainable water supply services in Dhaka (City)”.
The project aims to achieve an outcome of “More reliable and improved security of water supply and sanitation in Dhaka” and to achieve the target ‘impact’ through these defined outputs set by ADB; the lead donor.:
- Output 1: New surface water supply system developed comprises 1,050 MLD river intake, 500 MLD water treatment works (phase 1), 22.5 km raw water pipeline, 14 km treated water transmission, and 70 km distribution and feeder pipelines.
- Output 2: Existing distribution network in zone 6 strengthened comprises rehabilitating 496 km of distribution networks under 16 DMA's at MODS Zone 6.
- Output 3: DWASA's management and administration capacity improved, and
- Output 4:Empowerment of women and vulnerable groups supported along with the construction of at least 1,000 community toilets and bathing chambers with separate units for males/females in low-income communities and creation of CBO's with at least 40% women member in Dhaka city.
The proposal for additional funding inDecember 2020 added Output 4.
